Qoraalkan oo ingiriisi ah halkan ka akhri qoraalka. The Federal Government of Germany has announced that its citizens traveling to Somaliland must follow the visa system used by Somaliland and obtain entry at its airports.
Astatement issued by the German Migration Agency stated that when it comes to immigration issues, people traveling to Somalia are required to have a visa imposed by the Somali government, but Somaliland has a separate visa system, and German citizens are instructed to follow the Somaliland system when traveling to Somaliland.
“Somaliland, a country struggling for its independence, is granted entry upon arrival at the airports of Berbera, Borama, Burco, Erigavo and Hargeisa. Anyone wishing to stay for 30 days must submit an application to clarify the purpose of their trip. Without an application, entry may not be granted. The visa fee is charged by Somaliland and is paid in dollars,” the German government said in a statement.
Somaliland issues visas upon arrival at its airports, which allow a person to stay for 30 days or as long as they wish. However, in most cases, a foreigner is required to have an official invitation stating the purpose of their trip.
Somaliland has recently strongly opposed the visa waiver system imposed by the Federal Government of Somalia, saying that the Somali order does not apply to Somaliland, and that anyone holding a Somali visa cannot land at its airports. Germany is becoming the first country to publicly accept Somaliland’s visa waiver system.
Meanwhile, the Somali Prime Minister, responding to questions from the public on Monday, said that Puntland, which previously refused Somalia’s visa waiver system, is forced to accept it, but Somaliland’s case is special.
“Somaliland’s case is special and we will discuss it, but Puntland will come to the truth,” said Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre.
He said that the visa waiver system aims to strengthen the Somali government’s border management throughout the country, and to keep track of people entering and leaving.
